Journalism / Writing Internship for Badger Vibes

The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA)* is seeking a Journalism / Writing Intern that will assist with the writing and editing of Badger Vibes, WFAA’s digital newsletter for alumni of color.   The intern will conduct research, interview subjects, write articles, find photos, and assist with editorial decision-making.  The intern will also write for other WFAA projects, as needed. This intern will work 10 hours a week during the academic year.

 

Who is WFAA?
The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association is a private, nonprofit corporation that encourages individuals and organizations to make gifts to the university and to connect with the UW. In 2014, the UW Foundation merged with the Wisconsin Alumni Association® to better serve a growing population of UW alumni and donors. We believe that private support grows out of good relationships between campus leaders, faculty and program staff who need support, and the alumni and friends who want to invest in UW–Madison. We provide important engagement opportunities to link UW–Madison alumni to each other and to their alma mater, building a strong community of Badgers.

Essential Functions

  • The Badger Vibes intern’s most important function is writing and editing accurate, original articles.
  • The intern must have an interest in online publishing and digital marketing strategy.
  • The intern must have an interest in writing about and for communities of color.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and interviewing skills.
  • Understanding of journalistic practices and ethics.
  • Understanding of copyediting and an eye for detail.
  • Familiar with common office and online publishing software.

 Other Qualifications:

  • Studying journalism, English, or another writing-intensive major.
  • Our ideal candidate will have experience writing about or for diverse communities on or off campus.
